"Italian To Go" (Beginners - Day 1)

Beginners - Day 1: This course is ideal for people who are new to Italian and people who have a minimal knowledge of Italian. It is also helpful for people who have studied a little bit of Italian in the past and who now want to learn to handle some key travel topics before a trip to Italy. 

This One-Day Course can be done separately. It is also the first day of the full Learn to Speak Italian Two-Day Course. 

You can make the most of this combined course that starts at Introduction to Italian level in the morning and proceeds to Brush Up Your Italian level in the afternoon. There will be two separate Conversation Groups, one at each level.

ITALIAN FOR TRAVELLERS - Introduction to Italian 

Workshops-Conversation Classes

We take 12 key travel scenarios and for each scenario

• We start by learning the most basic language on that topic (Introduction to Italian in Workshops 1 and 2)

and then 

• We expand and complete each topic to help you to communicate in Italian more confidently in each scenario (Brush Up Your Italian in Workshops 3 and 4)

(1) How to pronounce basic Italian words and phrases - Greetings, days, everyday language - Key travel expressions that you will use frequently in a wide range of travel scenarios.

(2) How to handle Italian numbers, money and prices. 

(3) How to order food and drinks in coffee bars and restaurants - A look at the Italian To Go Italian Menu Guide - Common dishes on menus. 

(4) How to eat cheaply and well in Italy - How to buy your own food in food shops and markets.

(5) How to book accommodation, check in and check out, make requests, etc.

(6) How to go shopping.

(7) Transport - How to get around - Travelling by train, bus, coach, air, ferry - Buying transport tickets and booking seats.

(8) How to find your way around - Asking for street directions.

(9) Sightseeing - Italian towns - Buying tickets for sport and shows.

(10) Learn basic conversational expressions that you can use for meeting people and making friends in Italy.

(11) Asking for help - Emergency expressions - How to make special requests and talk about allergies and food intolerances. 

(12) Travel tips for travelling around Italy, e.g., learning to read an Italian train ticket, reading names of shops, understanding road signs, aspects of Italian language, culture and way of life - as they affect travellers.

There will be two separate Conversation Groups:

(1) Conversation Group for Beginners with Minimal or No Italian who are doing Introduction to Italian for Beginners 

(2) Conversation Group for Beginners with Some Italian who are doing Brush Up Your Italian.

Within each Conversation Group, people can practise in small groups of 2, 3 or 4 people.

Workshop 1 - 9:00am - 10.45am Introduction to Italian for Beginners and Brush Up Your Italian (Revision) 

10.45-11:15am Italian Coffee Break

- Break plus Optional Informal Conversation Practice Session in small groups over coffee

Workshop 2 - 11:15am - 1.00pm Introduction to Italian for Beginners and Brush Up Your Italian (Revision) 

Half Day Course finishes at 1:00pm.

1:00-2:00pm Italian Working Lunch Break

- Break plus Optional Informal Conversation Practice Session in small groups over lunch 

Workshop 3 - 2:00pm - 3:45pm Learn to Speak Italian for Beginners and Brush Up Your Italian 

Short Day Course finishes at 3:45pm.

3:45-4:15pm Italian Coffee Break for people doing Full Day Course

- Break plus Optional Informal Conversation Practice Session in small groups over coffee

Workshop 4 - 4:15 - 6:00pm Learn to Speak Italian for Beginners and Brush Up Your Italian

Full Day Course finishes at 6:00pm.

All conversation sessions are optional, but highly recommended. It is also a lot of fun to pretend you are already on your holiday in Italy, meeting people and speaking Italian. "Buon viaggio! - Have a good trip!"

About the teacher, Juliana Pupazzoni Burman
